THE PRONOUN

1.                          Ayesha is a girl.

2.                          She reads in 5th class.

3.                          She always stands first.

4.                          Her father is a Publisher.

غور کیجئے

1.                          پہلے جملے میں Ayesha کا ذکر ہے

2.                          اگلے تینوں جملوں میں ذکر تو Ayesha کا ہے مگر Ayesha کی بجائے She اور Her استعمال ہوا ہے۔

پس ایسا لفظ جو کسی Noun کی جگہ استعمال ہو Pronoun کہلاتا ہے یا اس کی تعریف یوں کر سکتے ہیں۔

Pronoun is a word used instead of a Noun. It is of the some Number, Person and Gender as the Noun for which it stands. It saves the repetition of a Noun. There are two most important kinds of a Noun.

  

KINDS OF PRONOUNS

1.   PRONOUNS

جس طرح اردو میں متکلم، مخاطت اور غائب تین صیغے ہوتے ہیں اسی طرح انگریزی میں متکلم کو 1st Person مخاطب کو 2nd Person اور غائب کو 3rd Person کہتے ہیں۔

(اسم کی ضمیریں)	i.            1st Person I, my, me, we, our, us.
(مخاطب کی ضمیریں)	ii.            2nd Person You, your, yours
(غائب کی ضمیریں)	iii.            3rd Person He, she, it, his, him, her, they, their, them.

  

Possessive کی دو قسم کی ضمیریں ہوتی ہیں۔

my	mine
your	yours
her	hers

پہلی قسم Noun سے پہلے استعمال ہوتی ہے جبکہ دوسری قسم Noun کے بعد جیسے:

1. This is my table.	1.  This table is mine.
2.  This is your chair.	2.  This chair is yours.
3.  This is his pencil.	3.  This pencil is his.
4.  This is her pen.	4.  This pen is hers.

  

2.  REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS

SINGULAR:       Myself, yourself, himself, itself.

PLURAL:            Overselves, yourselves, themselves.

غور کیجئے:

1.  Mehak did this work herself.

2.  I scored century in a match.

3.  Abdul Rehman wrote a letter himself.

4.  We enjoyed ourselves.

یہ کسی بات پر زور دینے کے لئے استعمال ہوتے ہیں۔ جیسے

·      Mehak herself مہک خود

·      I myself میں خود

·      Abdul Rehman himself عبدالرحمان خود

·      We ourselves ہم خود

ایسے Pronouns کو Reflexive Pronouns کہتے ہیں۔

3.   RELATIVE PRONOUNS

ایسے Pronouns جو دو جملوں کو ملا کر ایک بنادیں، انگریزی میں Relative Pronouns کہلاتے ہیں جیسے۔

1.                          This is a book. You bought it yesterday.

This is the book which you bought yesterday.

2.                          He is my fried. I met him yesterday.

He is my friend whom I met yesterday.

3.                          This is the girl. She stole my book.

This is the girl who stole my book.

پہلے جملہ میں Which لفظ him کی بجائے Pronoun استعمال ہوا ہے اور دو جملوں کو ملاتا ہے۔ اسی طرح پہلے اور دوسرے جملہ میں Who اور Whom بطور Pronoun استعمال ہوئے ہیں۔
